As the president of the Mississippi Writers Guild for nearly ten years, I have had the opportunity to present a workshop about feature writing to many writing groups. “Writing for Fun and Profit: The Art of Storytelling” is a two-hour interactive workshop designed to introduce writers to writing for publications, from newspapers and magazines to blog posts and Substack.
I am proud to have been accepted onto the Mississippi Artist Roster with the Mississippi Arts Commission, and because of that, I am eligible for grants from the MAC for presentations to qualified organizations.
I also speak to groups around the region on the things I have learned through my writing about the people, places, music, food, and culture of the South. I am an ambassador of sorts, sharing the great stories I’ve uncovered and encouraging others to embrace their corner of the world with a sense of wonder and adventure.
If you are interested in having me speak to your group, please fill out the CONTACT form on this website and I’ll get back with you as soon as I am able.
Susan Marquez gave a fun and informative presentation on some of the interesting places, people, and events she has written about in her job as a freelance feature writer. She encouraged everyone to have a renewed sense of appreciation of what’s in our own backyard, and to share it with others. We’d love to have her back again in the future.
